Atelier NL showcases the value of local materials and the graceful subtleties of the natural world by reshaping raw earth elements into tangible, everyday objects. Over the past decade, they have developed a passionate research methodology that reveals the hidden narratives of the earth and all that it produces — from the landscape as a whole down to the molecular level. Through the analysis of clay, sand, and wood, their work is based on a unique design philosophy that concentrates on responsible production practices and good craftsmanship. Atelier NL understands design as a means to re-establish the vital connection between people and their environment. By working in close collaboration with local producers and communities, they translate the results of their investigations into thoughtful designs and participatory projects. On a deeper level, the work of Nadine Sterk and Lonny van Ryswyck calls for an expanded valuation of local sourcing and production and aims to reveal and inspire while opening the eyes of the general public and industry specialists alike.

Nadine and Lonny share their methodology in a series of ongoing lectures & workshops presented across the world. They also facilitate the Ceramic Minor Program and teach in the Department of Living Matter at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
