Project 11: Reimagining open spaces for radical participation and collective imagination // ETH Zurich

Doctoral candidate with description research
Description

This project engages with spaces for cultural transformation. More specifically the research looks at cultural spaces in (peri-)urban areas that form the basis for contemporary imaginaries for inclusivity. The researcher will engage in participatory ways with such places to understand the (spatial) conditions, relations and moments that are key to building transformational communities. Topics of hosting, retreating, organisational grounding and processes of collective learning will be actively touched upon during this PhD.

PhD Researcher: Natassa Dourida
Starting from my urge to contribute in restoring cultural heritage buildings in Athens, I had to engineer some orignal methodologies in motivating community mechanisms and make them function. Being a structural engineer with a master in restoration of monuments I am applying the principles I was tought in the social field. By maintaining a well-balanced multifaceted professional life, I have made sure that my professional endeavours match my social goals.
As a restorations expert, I make sure I put my studies in good use for the public benefit. As president of Communitism association, I try to activate my community on exploring the multiple benefits of maintaining our heritage. On the basis of this inspiration I create as an artist, trying to communicate what lies within.
